Help me out here!

I found out about French immersion today. Nicole and I got in the same one, just not our first choice which was Montreal. We’ve both been accepted to go to Rivière-du-Loup from May 16th until June 17th. Definitely better timing than from June 6th until July 7th like Montreal would’ve been. Fits into my schedule better, I’d only have two weeks with nothing to do. I still don’t know if I’m going to go though. It depends on whether or not Nicole decides to come back from Spain in time for it or not. That and whether or not I’m brave enough to go alone. It is five weeks in a French community many, many miles away from home.

I don’t know! I’m such a scaredy cat, yet I know it would be an experience of a lifetime. Please everyone, leave comments giving me advice. It would be greatly appreciated! :)

I say go for it, whether or not Nicole is home in time. If you go alone, what a great time for you to spoil yourself and have an amazing experience! And if Nicole comes with you, that’s just an added bonus! I had a friend that went to Montreal for a similar program, and she loved it. She went alone, and made such good friends and ended up learning a lot about herself by challenging herself like that. I honestly think you would have a great time and would feel so liberated by accomplishing this. Take that first scary step and never look back! ;-)

I’m a big fan of pros/cons lists. That might not be for you though. I’m gonna go along with everyone else and say go for it because if you don’t, you might have regrets later. If you go alone and have an amazing experience, you’ll be so proud of yourself for doing it. There are always other trips you can take with Nicole later on.

It only says 1 comment, yet I see 3! THIS WEBSITE IS CUHHHRAZY!

And, I’ve already told you my vote:

Go. It’ll be well worth the experience. Plus, it’s only 5 weeks, and the bestest person in the world (ie. me) will be here when you get back!

    Cheers.

Go! My friend Lisa did French immersion for two summers in Quebec and she loved it. Go!

In my humble opinion you should go. I have, on occasion, acted like a vagabound and I would like to think I am a better man for it. Plus you know some of the language so it won’t be that difficult to get around.(This is an assumption) Again it is up to you but it is better, when you are older, to look back and have a little what if’s as possible.

I think it’d be a heck of an experience, but we’d always love to have you back in Saskatoon too ;) Just whatever you figure…

    Go for it!

Anything that’ll give you the chance to tell weird stories when you get back is well worth it…

Since no one is opposing the idea, I will play Devil’s advocate for the sake of maintaining the balance.

Yes, it certainly is a great opportunity. But I would advise you not to go alone. It’s a foreign country, not a neighboring state. 5 weeks can be a really long time when you’re alone. Since you’re not from the US, they’ll probably like you, but regardless. You’re best off going with your friend. If not Nicole then find someone else to go with you and watch your back. I may seem overly concerned but thats just to emphasize the importance. In closing:

“Keep a good friend at your side, and a knife in your pocket.”

Rivière-du-Loup is still in Quebec, right? It wouldn’t be much of a culture shock.

    GO GO GO GO GO!!!!!!

Also, it’s not a foreign country… it may not be a neighbouring PROVINCE but it is still in Canada. You will learn so much and your french oral skills will be improved immensely by being submerged in the culture.
