I can breathe a huge sigh of relief.
For the last little while I’ve been stressing out over discussing my availability for the fall with my manager. I can only work one evening shift plus weekends, whereas last year I worked two evening shifts plus weekends. I was very concerned I would be politely told to go find another job! As much as I sometimes grumble and complain about going to work on days I don’t feel like it, I really do enjoy my job, and find that even when I don’t want to go to work I am always laughing and enjoying myself within a few short minutes. I dreaded the thought of having to quit, especially because I am not a huge fan of interviews and starting new jobs.
It’s all good, though. My manager was absolutely fantastic! She understood that school really will be top priority in my life, and completely supported the fact I can’t work during the school year as much as I have previously. Though I’ve always known my manager to be very approachable, I couldn’t help but be worried, and I am so insanely happy that things are working out!
To top it all off, my manager even gave me four days off next week because she knew I would need a little breather once my summer class was over. How great is that! I’ll be heading to my Aunt and Uncle’s cabin at Little Bear Lake next Monday and can stay until Thursday!
Life is good!

In my experience most managers just care if you can work the weekends or not. I’m glad it all worked out for you!

Let me get this straight. You were actually stressing over discussing a one day alteration to your availability? Dear god. You keep worrying about stuff like that and you’re not gonna make it to 30.

Hey Brea, I love reading your blog! You inspire me to want to post on my blog more. When I’m back in Saskatoon this year, hopefully I’ll have the time to drink lots of wine and write about it. I’ve actually had quite a bit of wine this summer in Vancouver, but haven’t had the time to write about it with all the weddings and all. Keep up the good work kiddo;)
See you soon,
Andrea

Sarah- I’m glad it worked out too! Really, I don’t mind working weekends anyway. I really doubt I’d get up on a Saturday morning and do homework, so I might as well be working. Mall hours aren’t bad either, I’ll only work until 5:30 at the latest on a Saturday so that leaves me with plenty of time to go out, and then not work until 11 AM the next morning.
Anon- Yeah, I guess it does look like a one day change, but it’s really more than that… last year I could work weekends, plus two EIGHT HOUR shifts during the week. This year I can only work one FOUR HOUR shift during the week. And I can’t work Fridays, but I can work weekends. Basically my availability was cut in half hours wise. Oh, next time you comment please use an ID. Thanks!
Andrea- Do start updating more! I constantly go to your site and am saddened by no update.
I haven’t drank much wine this summer, I guess because to me nothing beats an ice cold beer in the heat of the summer. We’ll definitely have to get together and share a bottle of wine and good conversation when you’re back in Saskatoon… I want to hear all about your wedding! Can’t wait!
