The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree.

My mother, bless her heart, likes to impart advice onto anyone willing to listen. My sister and I know that when she starts a sentence with “A person should…” or “A person really ought to…” we are about to receive what she considers sage wisdom.

Today, on the way back from the lake, my Mom, sister, and I started talking about how much my extended family used to play various card games. It wasn’t a family gathering if everyone didn’t pull a chair up to the kitchen table and play a few rounds of cards. Aside from the name-calling and accusing people of cheating, it really was great family fun!

Anyway, in the middle of the discussion, I turned to my sister and said “Oh God, I am about to sound like our mother.” She wondered why, and then trying my darndest to keep a straight face, I said “A person really ought to write down all the card games so as to not forget any!”

At this point, we erupted into snort laughter that even my Mom had to join in on.

Like mother, like daughter!

Is it still considered a “card game” if you make your own cards and there are dice involved? ;)
