Books.

As tagged by Jeff.

A book that changed my life

“Tuesdays With Morrie” Mitch Albom.

A book I’ve read more than once

“The Stone Diaries” Carol Shields.

What book would you take to a desert island?

“Dressing Up for the Carnival” Carol Shields.

A book that made me laugh

“Sunshine Sketches of a Little Town” Stephen Leacock.

A book that made me cry

“Bridge to Terabithia” Katherine Paterson.

A book I wish had been written

Okay I’ve sat here pondering this question for way too long… I have no answer. My creativity bank is empty I guess.

A book I wish had never been written

“He’s Just Not That Into You” I’ve never read it, but from what I’ve heard it’s typical NO SHIT he’s not into you, you dumbass. Not all girls are completely clueless, thankyouverymuch.

Books I am currently reading

“The Breadwinner” Deborah Ellis.

Books I’ve been meaning to read

“The Red Tent” Anita Diamant.
“As For Me and My House” Sinclair Ross.

What turned me on to fiction

My grade 2 and 3 teacher, Mrs. Campbell.

I’m not going to tag anyone, since I am willing to bet my blogging hiatus has made me lose readers. My bad.

First Brownie meeting tonight!

I? Have the cutest puppy in the world. I took him outside to play in the backyard, and he was happily running amuck… until a plane flew overhead. That’s when he hid under the deck stairs. What a little lover bean.

Tonight is my first Brownie meeting! Yay! I’m very excited to see the couple of returning faces as well as meet all my new girls. Kori and I have some great ideas in store this year, and I can’t wait to back in the swing of things! We were hoping for a bigger turnout this year, but apparently there are only 7 girls (compared to last year’s 6.) Oh well, it is easier to develop closer bonds than if there were 10+ girls.

Oh, and it’s Amy Millan later tonight! Could today get any better?

I think not.

Actually… it could. Today would be PERFECT if my homework that is due, you know, tomorrow was done. Oh well, I’m sure I’ll find some time to finish it, even if it means getting up insanely early. Yech.

My life.

Reasons why I am terrible at updating:

  1. Everyone reads this. Well, not everyone but lots of people that know me in real life. I’ve decided it’s much easier to blog (aka “air my dirty laundry”) when I don’t know who is reading it. At the same time, though, I want everyone to read my blog. Makes me feel special. So maybe I just have to get used to everyone knowing my secrets.
  2. My love life is at a complete standstill. Seriously. It’s sad. I may just join a convent because, hey, I’m not getting any anyway! And, let’s face it, reading about my dating adventures is way more fun than reading about classes or work.
  3. I need a new template. Badly. Dots Dark got old fast, so I am back to this one. It’s nice, but I’ve had it for pretty much the entire year so yes, I’m a bit sick of it. If anyone can help me remedy my template woes, I would be very appreciative. A new template always jump starts my excitement for blogging.

Okay only three excuses. Hmm.

Guess there’s only so many ways I can say “I suck at blogging.”

There are a few things that are new with me…

Last night I went to Alyssa’s for fondue and wine. Tonight I’m going to The Last Kiss with Alyssa. Who needs a boyfriend when I have Alyssa?

I have the best friend in the whole wide world. She sent me a very sweet card in the mail. I like getting mail! Especially from Rosey! I am very lucky in the friends department.

Winston is doing great! Except for chewing everything in sight, which includes my toes and the cords for my hair dryer and straightener. He’s mastered the stairs, only going up though. For some reason he is frightened of going down, and instead will sit at the top and whine until someone takes pity on him. Which happens quite quickly, since he is too cute to ignore.

I have a busy week ahead of me. I’m going to Amy Millan with Wes and maybe Alyssa on Tuesday. Friday is the Education pubcrawl. Saturday is the Education football trip to Regina. So, Rosey, that clearly means you have to meet up with me at The Owl that evening. We are stopping there for a burger and a beer before going to the game.

One thing that I must stop doing: pretending I work more than 10-15 hours a week! Alyssa just called wanting to go for supper to Red Lobster before the movie. I went for supper with Jenna to Mano’s last Friday. Eep. Goodbye money!

My new puppy!

Winston, meet world. World, meet Winston. We chose Winston as a possible name before we chose our puppy, and decided that it is perfect. Nicole and I were so scared on the way home from Radisson, where we got the dogs. We were scared because Winston apparently does not like car rides. Seriously. He was totally limp, and his heartbeat was so weak… I was afraid he was dying! :( But when we got him home, he perked up and ran all over the place with his tail wagging. Thank God.

Anyway, we are soddenly in love with our new puppy. Look at that face, how can you not be!?

So excited.

We are leaving within the half hour to pick up our new puppy.

Life is good.

I’ve been having a great time at school, despite suffering from a massive head cold the last couple of days.

When I found out I was accepted into Education I was determined I would become as involved as possible to really enjoy my short time in a professional college. So, I decided to run for two positions in the Education Student’s Society (ESS). I ran for Beta Rep (my cohort) and Professional Development Officer.

And I “won” the position of PD Officer! I say “won” because what actually happened was there are two positions for PD Officer, and though three people applied, one of the three got the position for her cohort rep, so no longer needed to attempt for a position as a PD Officer. Which is why another girl in my cohort is Beta Rep, since I was made a PD Officer. Does that make sense?

Point is, I really wanted to be a member of ESS and now I am! My only disappointment is I don’t get to campaign, which is something I’ve never done. I even bought lollipops and stapled pieces of paper on them that encouraged people to vote for me! Oh well, it’s for the best. I would’ve probably driven myself crazy with worrying over whether or not I’d win, and then be extremely disappointed if I didn’t. Also, now I have 200 lollipops!

So yes, life is good, in fact I’ll say life is great because…

WE ARE GETTING A DOG!

Eek I can’t wait! The one we’re leaning towards won’t be available until the beginning of October, but we also might go looking at different puppies tonight. To be quite honest, I don’t care what kind of dog we get, I just want one!

I also want to apologize for my terrible updating skills. Maybe once school is more underway and I’ve developed some sort of routine I’ll be able to update more.

Just today. Not always.

Last night I had a dream that a tall, built boy that was totally cute and adorably shy was interested in me.

So, naturally, I woke up completely depressed it was just a dream, with the realization that I have dated SEVEN guys so far this year yet the number of hot men I have knocking down my door wanting to take me out is a big, fat zero.

Yes, I know, out of those seven the overwhelming majority were dismissed by me having decided they weren’t “right”, not the other way around, but still…

I guess today I just feel lonely.

Check back tomorrow, I’m sure I’ll be loving my single status again, like I (mostly) have been.

Confusion everywhere.

Okay, this won’t be long, I just feel guilty for never updating. Life is GOOD. I am having alot of fun, so I credit my terrible updating skills to me having a serious case of Real Life right now. Which, really, NO complaints whatsoever.

Well… maybe one! My one complaint is the confusion that results whenever someone asks me what year of university I am in… because at any given time my answer is:

It is my first year as an Education student at U of S

BUT…

because it is a sequential program, within the College of Education I am considered a third year student…

BUT…

technically I am in my fourth year of university…

BUT…

it is only my third year at U of S BECAUSE I took one year at U of R.

That hardly makes sense, I know… kind of like when I explain to people my university career… “I took a year at U of S then took two years off, then went to U of R for a year, but then came back to U of S and I am in my second year back there.”

At which point people look at me like I’m crazy and start backing away slowly.

Yes. Confusion abounds.

Orientation tomorrow!

Well, my life as an Education student starts tomorrow. Okay. Wait a minute… that sounds too ho-hum. Let me try this again…

MY LIFE AS AN EDUCATION STUDENT STARTS TOMORROW WA-HOO!

Ahem. That’s better.

Seriously, though. I am excited. I guess I still can’t believe I am officially in Education. Many of my classes were in the Education building last year, and I won’t lie to you… I spent a good portion of my time giving the evil eye to those who were lucky enough to actually be Education students, and wondering when my time would come. I just didn’t think it would be this year, and I am so stoked that my dreams are coming true.

Classes don’t start tomorrow, tomorrow is only orientation, which I hope will be alot of fun. Meeting classmates, finding more about the college, all that. I am nervous though… it sort of feels like the first day of high school; you know, you want to meet people and be “cool”. And while most of you know me as being quite, er, friendly (aka bouncing off the walls!), fact is, when I am alone and meeting people I am rather shy. When I have my friends there, that’s when I am more outgoing, because their presence makes me feel safer or some such ridiculous thing I shouldn’t even admit to, because it’s so immature. :(

So here’s to hoping tomorrow goes good, and the rest of my life as an Eduation student is as great as I’ve imagined it to be.

(Eep. Scared.)

A late Friday’s Feast #109

I was too busy being tagged yesterday I forgot to feast! Which is not a huge surprise, since I’ve forgotten before. I suck.

Appetizer
What are some lyrics you have misheard (such as, instead of “Gettin’ Jiggy With It” you heard “Kick a chicken with it”)?

I can’t think of any time I completely misheard lyrics, so I am going to instead tell a story about a time I mixed the lyrics of two songs to make my own song. My Dad, Nicole, Chelene (it was you, Chel, right?), and I went camping one weekend, I can’t remember how old I was. Anyway, we arrived late and were setting up the tent, and making quite a ruckus while at it. Someone said something about waking up the neighbours and I spontaneously broke into song… “WAKING UP THE NEIGHBOURS STEADY AND STRONG!” Yeah. I had taken a part of Bryan Adams’ “House Arrest” and Michelle Wright’s “Take It Like a Man”. Nicole and Chelene proceeded to laugh at me. I assure you, my mix-up was totally unintentional and I honestly thought it was an actual song!

Soup
What is the worst movie you have ever seen?

The first time I saw Napoleon Dynamite I thought it was the worst movie ever and did not laugh. I can appreciate the stupid humour now, but it wasn’t what I expected at first so I hated it.

Salad
Using the letters from your favorite number, write a sentence. Example: Tomorrow has really easy experiences.

See Exciting Voluptuaries Exist Now. (At this blog! But not now! Because now I am at home on a Saturday night! My apologies for being a sucky voluptuary lately! I actually have lots of stories to tell but just don’t feel like telling them! And I swear to God I’ll have more when school starts, and partying does too! Also, why am I using so many exclamation points?!!!)

Main Course
What was the most interesting news story you have heard this week?

Ah, frick. I’ve been caught. I don’t really keep up-to-date on news stories, which is horrible, I know. Soo… I’ll just go with fugitive nabbed after 24 years since it is the only news story I’ve really paid attention to.

Dessert
Which word(s) would you choose to describe your wardrobe?

Boring, black, white, mish-mash. Did I mention boring? (Yes, I suffer from “closet-full-of-clothes-and-nothing-to-wear-itis.” It’s a terrible malady.)
