24 and life to go.

Thanks to Facebook I have gotten an inordinate number of birthday wishes today! That’s okay, each one fills me with happiness. Twenty four years old today, how about that? Officially mid twenties. And life to go.

I had a great time this past weekend, what I call my “birthday weekend” even though my birthday wasn’t until today. I didn’t make it to the beach on Saturday because I was too busy cleaning house and shopping for that evening. Friends came over and we had a great time playing board and card games and eating a lot of food. Yesterday I made it to the beach, my slight sunburn can attest to that. I had a blast, it was a perfect beach day and end to my fun weekend.

Today will be a low key day. I just got back from dim sum with my mom, sister, and sister-in-law. Tonight the plans so far consist of a trip for icecream and maybe take the dog for a walk. Exciting for sure.

I feel content with life. I like this feeling, and hope it lasts.

My bed will feel nice.

So I went out tonight. You know, “First night out as a single woman! Wahoo!”

Yeah.

That was a mistake.

All I noticed were the couples around me. Which I am sure makes me pathetic.

Anyway. The last couple of nights I had felt guilty for staying at home reading and watching TV. I felt like I wasn’t enjoying summer enough or something.

Now here I am, wishing I had stayed home and read Harry Potter, for all the good going out did me!

Maybe I should accept the homebody, loner side of me and stop pretending to be otherwise.

Or at least not force myself to go out when every bone in my body wants to curl up on the couch with a good book.

My life is beautiful!

I’m in a remarkably good mood right now. Which makes sitting in my windowless office all by myself a little hard to take!

Today I participated in a photo shoot for the university alumni fund. I was the College of Education student rep for the alumni reunion in June and part of that was having my name and face on a letter than goes out to Education alumni asking for donations to the alumni fund (for student scholarships and bursaries.) Today’s photoshoot was for a brochure about the alumni fund that goes out to something like 55,000 people. So I will be in the group photo on the front and then I am one of three people with individual shots and short write-ups inside the brochure too. I’m pretty excited about it! All the students featured get copies of the brochure for their own use. I think I’m going to get one for myself, my mom, my dad, and my grandma.

I am looking forward to this weekend. My birthday celebrations are this Saturday, starting with spending the day at the beach or something followed by having people over for board games, food and such. Monday, my actual birthday, I work but plan on going for lunch with Mom and Nicole followed by drinks with friends that night. Twenty four years old. I can’t decide how I feel about that!

In other news, I am re-reading all the Harry Potter books. I think I’ve only ever read up to book five or something. Since the seventh and final book is out, I decided I want to start reading and not stop until I’m done the whole series. What with my internship and ESS responsibilities, I figure I’ll finish around Christmas.

That’s my life in a nutshell… simple but lovely, just the way I like it.

Surprise! Well, no, not really.

Guess who’s single?

July 20, 2007

Wedding tomorrow!

I’m finding it impossible to concentrate on work this morning for I am only here until 1 PM which is when I leave on my three hour trip to Carrot River.

One more day until the wedding! I hope it’s beautiful out, but with a nice breeze. My bridesmaid dress is satin, so if it’s hot with no breeze I’m going to absolutely die (the wedding is outdoors.) It’s raining in Saskatoon this morning, but I talked to my mom in CR and she said it wasn’t there, so hopefully the rain doesn’t follow me.

Megan gave me a “thank you for being my maid of honor and good luck on your internship” gift on Wednesday: a bag filled with supplies to use on my internship. Thanks again, Meg, now I’m even more excited to start!

I wish that the next seven hours zoom by but as soon as I arrive home I hope time slows down for the rest of the weekend.

Summer goes by too fast.

It makes me sad to think that it is the middle of July already. Megan and Sean get married this Saturday, I have my birthday party next weekend. And, just like that, it’ll be August. My job ends in August. I start my internship. I enter my last year of school.

Oh well… this is all good. I’m not digging my heels in, I’m just surprised at how fast it has all arrived.

I feel awfully lonely this week. Not very much fun at all. That’s why I’m very excited to head to Carrot River this Friday and be surrounded by my lovely and amazing family for the weekend.

To shake this lonely feeling, I’m going to Taste of Saskatchewan for lunch today with Chelene and Nicole. I can’t wait! In fact, I’m going to go check out the menu and make some decisions beforehand!

Congratulations Nicole and Chad!

My sister and Chad are, as of tonight, an engaged couple! Though it shouldn’t have come as much of a surprise, they are building a house together after all, it came out of the blue on a random Tuesday evening so nobody was really expecting it today. Nevertheless, I’m super excited for her!

So funny because last summer I was sad over the end four family weddings in a year (my cousin Tanya, my cousin Amy, my Uncle Kent, and my brother) and now I have three more to look forward to; Megan’s in less than two weeks, Chelene’s next May, and now Nicole’s (whenever she sets the date!)

(Photo from Nicole and Chad’s Caribbean cruise last January. Perfect engagement photo, don’t you think?)

Vancouver 2007: A trip in photos.

My first day in Vancouver: Mr. Big took this picture of me at Coal Harbour.

Steam clock in Gas Town.

I took so many pictures at the aquarium, mostly of dolphins. They were my favorite, along with otters! Too cute!

Outside of Vancouver Aquarium.

Under a tree I loved outside of the Vancouver Aquarium.

Canada Day was spent reading and napping on the beach of the Pacific Ocean.

Canada Day night was spent out with Alicia and her friends.

Of course I went out for sushi while there. I’d be crazy not to! Delicious and cheap.

I took a lot of photos, but figure these about sum up my week best!
Parts of my trip I loved, and will always stick with me:
  • Wading in the Pacific Ocean at 4 AM.
  • The cute Italian boy who asked me where I was from and looked completely dumbfounded when I said “Saskatoon, Saskatchewan.”
  • Shopping!
  • Sushi… so cheap!
  • Science World, very kid oriented so wasn’t that interesting for Wes and I, but I would love to take my own kids there one day.
  • VANCOUVER AQUARIUM! I love that place!
  • Visiting my Great Uncle Mike and Great Aunt Winnie in Surrey and going for tea and cookies with them and their two friends, I must be eighty years old at heart because I had a blast.
  • Walking all over, in flip flops no less, I’m surprised my feet didn’t fall off.
  • Partying at Ceilis (Alicia’s neighbourhood pub.)
  • Watching fireworks over Coal Harbour on Canada Day, and the little old lady who was dressed in a floor length gown with a huge necklace of pearls and diamonds, it was so random.
  • The cupcake store! Soooo good!
  • Still experiencing a feeling of it being a small world when I met Alicia’s friend Shane who grew up in a town 20 minutes away from my hometown, and who knew my sister.
  • The security guy in Vancouver airport whom, upon seeing I was headed to Saskatoon, said in a surprised voice “Saskatoon has an airport?” I found that hilarious, and it made me a little bit proud to be from tiny Saskatoon.
  • Mountains! A nice change from the prairies, but I’ve got to be honest, I got a bit homesick for flat Saskatchewan.
  • The ocean and beach, I could definitely handle living by an ocean.

All in all, I loved my vacation and loved Vancouver. I could handle living there. I don’t think permanently though, just too many people for me. If I ever move to BC I think I would prefer to live in a quieter area. Maybe that’s the small town prairie girl in me, who knows? As much as it sometimes gets on my nerves that it seems that everyone knows everyone in Saskatchewan, I have to be honest it made my day when on my flight back to Saskatoon the man sitting next to me knew people from my hometown.

Heading home today.

I’m wasting time before I catch the Airporter at 10 AM.

I had a great time the past week in Vancouver and I absolutely love it here, yet at the same time I am eager to be home. I miss my own bed, my dog, my family, and my boyfriend. July promises to be a busy month with Meg’s shower/stagette combo, two weddings, and my 24th birthday.

I am not looking forward to travelling all day today. My flight doesn’t leave until 1 PM, but I’m taking the 10 AM Airporter just because it took over an hour to get to Alicia’s place when I got here last Wednesday. I don’t want to be rushed when I get to the airport. I change flights in Edmonton, but have a four hour layover which is not so much fun. I’ll spend it sleeping and reading. I (finally) arrive back in Saskatoon around 7 PM.

Anyway, I suppose I should finish packing my bags and eat something. I’ll update with more details on the trip later.
