So very, very tired.

As of half an hour ago, I have completed one week of sixteen of my internship.

Man I’m tired.

What’s sad is… my students haven’t even arrived yet! Kindergarten students don’t start until next week! But my week has been full: prep work, planning, PWIM conference, time spent in the grade one classroom. If I were to sum up this week, I could in two words: information overload.

I love every minute of it! I may be tired out of my mind right now, but it may be from vibrating with happiness and energy during the day? I don’t know? Point is, so far so good… now I just hope I get used to being awake super early, and that the next sixteen weeks go as great as the first did.

Sam, meet world. World, meet Sam.

Because there ain’t nothing like spending $200 on an instrument you don’t know how to play.

One lesson down, any guesses as to how many to go before I play something that even remotely resembles music?

A week away.

Next Monday is day one of my internship. Everyone I know doing their internship this fall is getting nervous and excited about starting, but I really feel like the nervousness and excitement that should accompany something as huge as this has yet to hit me. Maybe it is because while many people had to plan units over the summer, my cooperating teacher told me not to bother because while I start on the 27th, the kindergarten students don’t start until September 4th and then only every second day for a week.

I’d like to say I’m not nervous or excited because I’m just that confident in my abilities as a teacher, but that would be a lie. I’m sure come Sunday evening/Monday morning I’ll be shaking like a leaf.

I really can’t believe it’s only a week away. This week will fly by, what with getting myself organized, going shopping for more teacher clothes, attending Internship Orientation, and enjoying the last few days of freedom before school begins. And then, before I know it, it will be December and I’ll be finished.

Sometimes I wish life had a “pause” or “slow” button.

Annoyed.

I’m really annoyed by the fact that the university has sprinklers on when it is raining outside.

Grawr.

Sleepless nights.

I generally have no problem falling asleep at night, but it’s staying asleep that eludes me. For instance, last night I woke up at one, three, and five am. Possibly even more, those examples are when I was awake enough to check what time it was.

When at the lake this past weekend, we made Labrador tea which apparently is supposed to help a person sleep. I did sleep well that night, but I always do at the lake. I should have picked a bag of leaves to make tea in the city to test whether or not it works.

Today I googled ”sleep remedies” and found this website with 41 tips for insomnia. Some just aren’t an option for me (living with 3 other people means the TV/VCR/DVD in my bedroom are lifesavers and the thought of drinking warm milk makes me want to gag) but there are a few others I plan on trying.

Does anyone have any ideas as to how I can fall asleep and stay sleeping until morning? I really don’t want to be walking around like a zombie when doing my internship this fall!

Time is going by sooo slowly!

One more hour and I am done work, get everything together, and head to the LAKE! Then three days of swimming, fishing, hiking, canoeing, boating, eating, relaxing, visiting, and just enjoying life in general. Where there are no cell phones or computers. I’m actually happy about that.

I can’t think of a better place to spend my August long weekend than at Little Bear Lake. I love it so much up there. Too bad it is a three and a half hour drive away!
